really sorry. i know this question has been asked alot..so, I have a nice setup and i have a 6 month old beardie. the kit tank bulbs were not to the quality of the internet info..it came with a desert 50 uvb..but i went out and got a reptisun 18 inch 10.0 fluorescent which is on now..so the heat lamb for uva..is my main thing. i have a day light that came with the kit. its a 150 watt i think.but i went out and got a 75 watt UVA from petco since hes a baby still,..(and i will get a bigger tank when he grows, hes in a 20 at the moment)now heres my question..i want him to be as healthy as possible. first, are household bulbs, like new energy saver house lights UVA? cause wiki states any visible light is UVA. i also have a mini fluorescent lamp..(not to get confused with the reptisun 10.0 that i stated) is that UVA? cause the bulbs dont state it...im basically thinking of safety here.. can i use these house energy saver lights for UVA instead of the day light bulb from petco or the other 75 watt bulb i got from zoomed? my room isnt cold. and i have a electric temperature monitor and two others in the tank and its about 90. im just nervous when being at work running that day lamb that gets hot as hell in the dome..ill do it if i have to but was just curious if i can use the fluorescent mini lamb i have instead. has anyone that you know of every had a fire having two or three lambs on all day? no joke on how hot these domes get with the ceramic top..it makes me nervous. im loving the 10.0 fluorescent though, much safer feeling..sorry..im a noob, but willing to do anything to keep him as healthy as possible...was also curious if its ok to keep crickets in his tank while im at work, like 5 or 6..cause before i left i noticed he didnt want to eat yet, but they were walking on his face for a sec, but they werent on him when i left for work..will they bite him? hes eating good, i think he was still tired.

Ive had a crested gecko for over a year, and hes doing great..but this beardie is only the second reptile ive ever owned. i bought a book on them also and have been doing as much research as possible and watch a ***** load of youtube care videos..even though each person says different things

Hi, welcome to the forums. The uva bulb is the basking bulb. The new house hold CFLs do not produce much heat. Better choices would be the regular old style house bulb, flood lamp or halogens. The ceramic top domes can handle high temps. Anything a 150 watt will produce ;) i know you are conscious of the heat and electrical. Best thing to do is put these on a nice grounded power strip. Not a two for six dollar power strip pay the money for a nice one with warranty. Next, spend a good amount of time monitoring your set up. Make sure you dont have the bulb itself resting on anything plastic or on anything in general. See how your temps flucuate during the day and night. Monitor temps with a digital themometer. Basking should be in the region of 100-110* and the cool side of the tank should in the mid 80's.

Hope this helps
