Good Evening,

Our four year old beardie is not doing well. He has always been under-sized but generally in good health. In the last couple weeks his back has become increasingly dark and he seems sleepy and lethargic. For a couple days he was just laying on the bottom of the 40 gallon cage so we move him back into his 20 gallon fearing the larger cage might be too large to keep warm. He immediately crawled under the basking light and now spend most of his time on the warmer side of the cage but he still doesn’t look well. He has a basking light and a Reptisun Terrarium hood and black heating coil for night time. His tank is in the 90s on one side and 80s on the other. At night, the tank is in the 70s. We’ve also bathed him several times and begun adding calcium back into his diet. I’d appreciate any advice as we do not have a reptile specific vet anywhere in the area. Thank you!

Your using a reptisun bulb-- what is the bulb your using a T 8 or T 5? How old is the bulb and where is the uvb in the tank or top of the screen this is extremely important- basking temps should be surface temps and taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- 95-100

It’s a T5 and we purchased it in September. The UVB is on top of the screen. We have a digital probe. The basking temp varies from the top to the bottom of the perch but I believe it’s hotter than that based on other guidance I’ve read. Can you provide a little more detail please?

The screen on your tank is a fine mesh like a screen door or a wide holed type? This makes a difference for uvb rays--- you want basking surface of your decor he sits to bask 95-100
