Okay I needs some help. My bearded dragon has had some weird pooping habits. There were times where he was impacted then not. A couple months ago I got him out of a really bad impaction but he was still swollen and he still didn’t poop like he used to. I still goes now at least once a week but I started noticing he will try to poop on my, multiple times. For example today, I took a large dump in his cage a few hours went by I cleaned it up and gave him a bath to wash off the gross and put him back in. Hours later I took him out again and he was good for 10 minutes then when I set him done I tried to crap again. He didn’t get much out besides some liquid and a little bit of urine. I quickly put him on something he could crap on them he was fine for 1 minute and tries to poop on me AGAIN. I was able to get him to his bathing container and barely anything came out no poop just liquid. I then decided to soak him and he continues to try and push. This was not the first time this has happened, before more came out and he did it farther apart, so can someone help me. He used to poop every other day at around 12 pm, pretty much exactly on schedule.

It sounds like he’s trying to pass something, what was he impacted with in the past? You didn’t say anything about diet or supplements, we need to know whats goin in him before we can deduce what’s coming out or possibly not coming out.,,, in the meantime, watermelon is one of my favorite things to get my beardy to poo, the sugers and water content really help, a couple drops of Regular olive oil can help lube him up as well (NO more than 3 drops per day(this will give him diarrhea so be careful he may poop all over the place) if none of this helps , he is impacted and will need a vet, im sorry if none of this helped :(

You can try massaging his lower belly to help him pass whatever may be stuck, like skybug said olive oil is very helpful too. If he's still having trouble I suggest taking him to the vet before it starts effecting his health

If hes having issues please feed him some unsweetened applesauce canned pumpkin make it soupy w/ water or see if he will lick it off the spoon - baby food prunes keep feeding till he passes what he is trying to pass
How old is the dragon? If your feeding meal worms to a baby please do not feed anymore!! What size of a insect are your feeding ? They should not be the bigger than the space between the eyes length wise -- please post the diet your feeding ---

Thank you all!! Okay so the is my first dragon as you could probably tell. He is currently a juvenile and when I first got him I was giving him crickets and greens. I got a lot of conflicting messages about if mealworms and superworms were good for him but in the end I decided to try them out. In the beginning he was pooping fine. He was pooping every other day then when I switched him he didn’t poop for a while. So I gave him a warm bath at night and I rubbed his stomach. I could feel the worms not fully eaten like they felt all intact and everything. He didn’t poop that night but in the morning after he had two or three hours of basking I took him out again and started rubbing and there he went. I have had to do this consistently but this last week he started pooping all in his own again in his tank. Beginning of last week I did a full tank clean with the glass because I started noticing other problems he was having. Through research his symptoms pointed to an upper respiratory infection. At the time I didn’t know much about this so I was looking up treatments and realized that because it just snowed a little here and because my heaters were in it caused the humidity to go up but then to go down within the next couple hours of the morning. For this I took him out of the tank and walked around with him until the humidity went down a bit. Then I decided to do a deep clean of his tank think that that my have something to do with it too. That’s when the multiple poops started to happen. He tried three times before I got him back in his tank. I have had him out a couple times before for his baths. Every time he takes one I rub on his stomach rubbing from the top of his belly near his head to the bottom. Last night I decided to take him out again but same thing he tried to crap a dozen times after his first successful crap of the day.
To clarify on his current eating. Musters greens, red bell peppers, and that green stuff you put in the top of tocos (I don’t remember what it’s called) in the morning. Going to lunch time I feed him mealworms and superworms. Mainly super worms and I feed him them for a couple minutes till he doesn’t want them anymore. his worms are pretty big so I am going to either stick strictly to meal worms or find smaller worms. I am going to take him to a visit with the doc for an overall check up i was just trying to save up some extra money in case there was a serious or progressive problem.

NO ENEMAS!! start by feeding NO more meal worms or super worms -- to many of both will cause impaction and I believe this is the issue -- start giving him some natural laxatives ---- the unsweetened applesauce canned pumpkin or baby food prunes keep feeding him that till he is going poop again w/ out straining etc -- it will clean him out --- but do not feed any more meal or supers for now -- meal worms are too harsh on baby and juvies stomachs - older dragons are ok -- you can feed supers but it must be limited ---- like 1-3- every couple of days ---- you can add some olive oil to the laxatives ---- like a drop or two --- you can get some horn worms they are a hydrating worm and they grow really fast so order small amounts --- but I would lay off the ones your feeding til you can get him back on track of pooping again --- please read the post I posted about enemas --- I have seen too many distastorius mistakes w/ vets doing these things --

Okay that helps a lot. That’s what I thought. I never wanted to give him meal worms or super worms. My father, he has worked with lizards and such and thinks that because of his experience he is pretty much god. The last time I took his advice I had two gosh die on me. So it think that’s a red flag on its own. Going on, when do I start feeding him the worms again? I don’t really know how old he is exactly. I got him in July last year and he was very young. I don’t even know if it’s a boy to be honest. I am thinking he might be more or a girl because if some aspects like him/ her trying to burrow.

Wait til hes cleaned out and going on his own w/ out straining or having a hard time --- then reintroduce the supers but only feeding like 1-3 every couple of days -- so you know hes pooping --- when they get older they will slow down on the pooping --- my two dont poop but every couple of weeks or so sometimes longer if they arent eating alot but when they do go its A LOT -- watch his poops for dehydration --- his normal poop will be dark formed and moist w/ urate white formed and moist --- NO chalky looking or dried out looking --- if there is extra water that is good means hes extra hydrated --- so w/ the age of the dragon he was probably around 3 months but that is a guess because some sellers sell real young --- like only 2 months old -- so w/ the July sale date he could of been a couple of months old so around May maybe a year old ? How big is he now? I got Blaze in Sept he was born in July so he was around 2 months old -- he will be 2 this July -- Hiccup just turned 3 at the end of Jan --

Ok so you want nose to end of tail -- so hes 11 inches ? hes getting close to a year I would say -- and I would feed NO more meal worms for now --- wait till hes over a year old closer to adult -- w/ the impaction issues dont feed anymore -- but I do believe the combo of the two is the issue -- leaning more towards the meal worms -- but too many supers will cause the same thing -- I feed mine supers but not every day -- and only 3 at a time -- I havent had any issues w/ them -- and mine wont eat meal worms either -- they dont like them -- the only worms they eat are the butter horn and super -- so w/ that they get a combo and in limits

Okay I won’t anymore. I tried feeding him a hornworm on Christmas but he hated that thing. He took one bite and wouldn’t eat anymore. We don’t know what happened.

Wow they usually like them --- you can try again later and see if he will eat them -- Hiccup wouldnt eat super worms either and he just now has started to eat them -- their taste change -- mine wont eat BSFL now either - Blaze is tired of them and Hiccup never really ate them at all so ---

Okay cool I’ll try them when he’s a bit bigger. What are your recommendations for vitamins and everything. I was watching a video about what breeders did. They put meal worms of whatever insect they were going to feed into a container with an orange so the rag it and give the lizard vitamins that way.

Not heard of that idea --- my two started out w/ calcium D3 5 x per week once per feeding it is Repticalcium w/ D3 -- vitamins were fed Jurassivite w/ beta carotene 2 x per week once per feeding now as they are older and I am using a T 5 bulb they get Calcium w/ out D3 alternated w/ the D3 more of the w/ out tho and still getting vitamins as well but sometimes on the worms and sometimes on the insects as I am only feeding insects 2-3 times per week so I alternate all the supplements -- the calcium w out D 3 is Pep cal -- they are both in real good health -- they were in to the vet in August --- Blaze had to be treated w/ coccidia and I was amazed he had it but the vet said he could of had the parasite sitting since he was a baby and they just hatched so he was treated and hes back to good low counts again -- what a pain that was to clean his tank sanitized it every day w/ F10 -- I took out every thing but one hide and one basking piece --- it was easier to clean it that way - they are both on tile which made it so much easier to keep it cleaned -- that was for 2 weeks along w/ meds two times per day -- put him off his food for awhile not eating a lot -- he didnt lose any weight -- had to keep him hydrated as the meds dry them out -- thats why loose substrate is no good for that cleaning part --- it harbors stuff like that -- you haft to completely sanitize while your treating or other wise it comes back

Okay, one last thing. How do I know if he isn’t impacted any more?
He will be going to the bathroom every day or every other- if you see him straining to go to the bathroom there is a issue-- as they get older they do not poop every day - sometimes mine don't go for a week or two- them they let loose

Hope your baby is doing better? Green stuff you put on tacos? Do you mean avocado or guacamole? You shouldn't give to beardie. It's poisonous to them.

If you mean lettuce, then you should only give very small amounts periodically. Lettuce has very little nutritional value. If I include any in my guys salad it's romaine and I only include a piece or two to give him a bit of extra water intake.

It's been suggested not feed too many superworms as they are high in fat content and can lead to obesity in beardies. I usually don't feed my guy any more than 3-4 in a day and as a treat. 'Course he luvs them chocolatey worms. lol My guy is around 10 months (give or take) and I've never fed him meal worms as I learned early on they may cause impaction. Didn't want to take the chance.

I mean that clover thing. I don’t remember what it’s called, maybe parsley. I’m not sure.
