I let fox sit by the window while I went and got him veggies and when I got back his beard was black, I closed the curtains and his beard returned to normal. Right now his beard is dark but it's not black

I wonder what spooked him

He may have not even been spooked but soaking up the rays, or he was reacting to his reflection or something he saw..

It's possible maybe a bird flew by. I love, love LOVE his orange beard :)
It was probably a bird, he's not afraid of dogs or people and that's the only other things I can think of besides his reflection, but even that doesn't really bother him
His beard is always orange like that but sometimes it's absolutely brilliant, I will have to get pictures the next time he brightens up completely but there is no dark colors in his beard at all when he's that bright

MY beardie also had a lovely orange beard and when he is unhappy it turns darker a bit like the colour in the top picture.
