I took my son, my dog Koda and Precious to a pet friendly beach today. This wasn't spend all day in the water weather yet but the afternoon peaked at 87 degrees. I just figured we could walk along the beach with the little ones and soak up some sun.
Getting there felt like I was truly taking 3 kids with me. I had so much stuff I had to bring for all 3 of them. We made 3 stops during the 45 minute drive there because we knew Koda had to poop but he was too distracted the first time I pulled over. Finally he started whimpering so I pulled over again and he went. Then Precious pooped in her carrier so I pulled over yet again to get it so she wouldn't step all over it! I was truly wondering if we'd ever make it there.
The tide was so low that we couldn't even reach the water if we wanted to. We had a lovely day though. Ironically, Koda didn't seem as excited as I thought he might be and I think it might have been too warm for him. But Precious was totally into it!! I think the drive had her all perked up anyway, she really loves riding in the car.
I had her on my lap and she was basking and just watching it all, very alert and curious. We all took a walk along the shore. She started off on my chest but finally wanted me holding her out in my hands so her head was face forward.
I put her on the sand and she started doing the funniest thing! She was putting her hands deep in and then sliding them all over the sand...reminded me of the old "wax on, wax off" from Karate Kid. Then she would wipe her hands in it. I don't know if she ever felt sand before I got her but it seemed like she was trying to figure out what this new sand stuff was all about.
My son and Koda went further in where it was all muddy sand and my son found snails and horseshoe crabs and then took them further out so they were closer to the water. While they were doing that, Precious and I didn't go that far in but were a little bit closer. The sand was slightly moist and there were big stones all in it. I put Precious down again and she was walking all over the stones (even licked a few, not so sure how good that was). She really liked that. There were actually not too many shore birds there but the ones that we did see were smaller than her.
When we sat down for a little, I put Precious in the carrier and she was propping herself up so she could see over the bottom part and still just watching everything. I did cover half of the carrier with a towel so she had shade, which she didn't want. She did have her mouth open a couple of random times.
So here's my little beach babe:

The look I got when I asked her if she liked her beach adventure

It's funny because she's been acting bored and antsy since we've been home!
