Basking and over heated bask Items

Ok well I notice alot that my beardy doesn't bask in the center of the rock (some have seen the rock in my setup) When he does he lifts his arms often and picks up his fingers or nails...(what are they exactly?) To me it seems if the rock gets too hot for him so he moves to the side. Iv'e touched it and it does seem pretty hot imo.

What to do?

Mine did that, but I arranged their current enclosures so they have comfy basking areas that don't get so hot.. I also use a temp gun to check temps on a regular basis..couple of times a day.

Maybe the 100w Basking light is abit too much for that spot?

Could be.. I had to back down to a 90w in smaller enclosures. Try fiddling with the watts, then check temps.. surface temps..

What is your basking temp and what are you using to measure it?

Basking temps are at 107 avrge but when it goes into that "peak of the day" it can possibly go past 110 degree's. I dont know the surface temp though. I use a digital probe thermometer.

That temp should be fine for a baby, but perhaps yours likes it a bit colder. These are all averages and recommendations. But each dragon is different. Like Janie recommended, try a lower watt bulb, check the temps and see how your dragon behaves.
