Hi guys,
I have recently bought a young bearded dragon 2 weeks ago and his foot is looking a little strange. I don’t know if he has hurt it in the enclosure or if we bought him like it. Just wondered if anyone knows what it could be. Thanks.

Its swollen --- are you feeding crickets and do you leave them in the tank? Please go over the lighting in the tank NO coils for UVB please I know this doesnt have anything to do w/ the foot but its going to help in the healing process --- UVB's control the over all health of the dragon

Hi thanks for the reply
Yes we are feeding him crickets but we aren’t leaving them in there with him. The bulb doesn’t have coils it’s a T5 uv bulb.

Ok good where is the T 5? In the tank or on top of screen? I am going to enlist some more help w/ the foot -- do you have a hammock in the tank?

It looks like there is a little bump near the lower part of that leg, could just be the angle of the photo and that may just be his muscle but if he is having trouble walking on it or if it is very tender it could be a broken bone and I'd advise to take him to the vet.

Is that a T 5 or a T 8? From the way it looks the distance could be too far for a T 5 and definitely a T 8-- this crucial- ok so no hammock-- is the foot sensitive to touch?

I am concerned about the swelling - your T 5 should be 12-15 inches from basking decor w/it directly under neath- he needs to be able to sit under it--- does that fixture have a reflector?

Try soaking that foot in some betadine solution make it like a weak tea and soak for 10-15 minutes --- also known as

povidone-iodine, 10%--

Its a antiseptic that is for cuts scrapes and burns --- since we have ruled out the cricket bites and hammock issue-- is it possible she has scraped it on something in the tank ? If that does not start the swelling to go down I would then recommend you take her into the vet www.arav.org

Yes it does have a reflector and I would say it is around 15 inches away from his basking spot. I may have his foot looked at someone. Thanks.
