For starters, welcome to our forum. It could be relocation stress. A lot of beardies go through it when they have a new home or something changes with their current home. However, I'm not sure what is included with the Zilla starter kit. Can you go over the lights?

What is the basking light?
What is the UV light?
What is the third light?

Here's a link to our basic caresheet.

Ah... First, you will need to remove the Coil that is in that kit. Second, turn off the over night light, that also comes with that kit.
Now, once that is done, you will need this:
http://www.petmountain.com/product/...bs/504983/zoo-med-reptisun-10.0-uvb-bulb.html
The fixture you have will not house this tube. However, the good news is, that any regular fixture, say from walmart or lowes/home depot will. And for lots cheaper.
Just remove the lens that comes with the fixture and place the Reptisun inside.
If you can, return the fixture and the coil/compact that comes in that kit. You can keep the Ceramic Heat.
Now, with a screen top, you can place the new fixture on that, and raise up any basking spots so the baby is within 6-8" distance from the new UVB. Also right beside that, place an ordinary house hold bulb, say around 75 watts, so both bulbs are beaming down directly on the basking area.

I'm also going to guess that you got the round dial like thermometers ? Those are way off too. They can give readings 20*F off either hot or cold. A probe digi therm or a Temp gun are the way to go, my friend.

Now, Renee mentioned relocation stress... This actually effects darn near every dragon in a move or change in environment. Once you have changed out the bulbs, just leave this little fellow be. Oh, and you might want to think about covering up most of that tank's sides, so only a portion of the front glass can be viewed out of. This will offer the baby a sense of security.
Other than for bathing, and feeding/cleaning, just leave the baby be for a week or so.
If you have any other concerns, do please read our care sheet, and feel free to ask questions... Honest, we don't mind answering... But the fee for answers ??? Pictures of your lil darlin ;) ( pleaaaaaaaaase ? :))
Welcome to the Family !

Yup... I thought I remembered most of what came in that kit, Rex, but thanks for telling us exactly what came. Okay, colored bulbs can be seen by dragons, and it really hurts their eyes. Also that coil is a trouble maker, of which I suspect you are already seeing, with the avoiding of the lights.
The link I gave you is the correct bulb. A bright white house hold light is also correct for the dragons needs.

Most books are either quite out of date, or inaccurate. Most pet shops also have outdated information.

I honestly must strongly Urge you to change that coil out immediately. You will see a change quickly once the reptiSun 10.0 has been installed at the correct distance with the bright white house hold light. You don't honestly Need a light for over nights, even for heat... If your home doesn't fall below 65*F then no night time heat is needed. Did the pet shop also sell you an under tank heater ? Or a heat rock ? If so, then those are not needed either.

Does that help you out, hun ?
Janie.

yess that helps so much!! so you really think its the lights that are causing this? why would they come in the kit?!?! ugh this makes me upset.

i will purchase that new light and keep you updated. so i keep the blue day light and just get rid of the night light and coil then right?

thanks for the quick responses btw its much appreciated =)

It would be best to replace the day blue bulb with a soft white house light, the black night light isnt needed unless your home drops into the low 60s at night. The coil bulb needs to go away it can and often does cause issues.

as to your other question of whyd it come with it. well companies need to make money so they put together kits like this with the cheapest stuff possible and sell it for a great profit. its all about money. i know that sucks but it is true.

make sure you turn off/remove that coil until your new bulb arrives. it will cause more trouble than it is worth to have it on.

You can however, use that bright white light still, in place of the colored and coil, just until the ReptiSun 10.0 gets to you... This will allow any healing of strained eyes from that coil.
And... Welcome again, Frankie !
Gran Janie... ;)
( you do realize you have been adopted... yesssssss ? ;))

I'm glad you were able to get your lighting straightened out. Some other things to point out are temperatures. You will want a digital probe thermometer to track your temps. Temps on the cool side should be around 85F and 105-110F on the hot/basking side. Temps are important for the digestive process.

Good luck and let us know how he is doing.

hey guys just want to let you know im using a 75 watt halogen light bulb i got from home depot for white light and heat and a 60 watt regular house bulb for some extra heat...i ordered the reptisun 10.0 so hopefully he'll be fine with those light until it comes in..im just a little worried about its digesting process with out the uvb light.

btw i had the coil and blue light off all day today and its eyes were nice and open for the majority of the day and he finally ate! thanks for the advice!
