Hi everyone.
I purchased a baby bearded dragon from a breeder last Saturday. He was very shy the first day and would run whenever I would walk by. He got more comfortable and by the end of the day, he was eating mustard greens from my hand. The next day he ate about 18 3/8 inch dubia roaches. This is the first beardy I ever owned and I read from a lot of breeders that I am supposed to feed him (he is 11 weeks old) as much as he can eat 3-5 times a day for about ten minutes. The next day, he didn't show any interest in greens or roaches. He did eat two little mealworms. He has not eaten anything since, 3 days later. He has pooped everyday except today so far. Yesterday he also stopped basking and has continued that today. He also changes to a very dark color.
I gave him two bathes this week because I thought maybe he was dehydrated. He seems to really enjoy being handled, he just chills on my hand and dozes off. He also turns back to his light, white underbelly color instead of dark brown. Whenever I put him back into his cage, go to class and come back, he is always that dark brown again, which I read could be a sign of stress.
I have him in a 40 gallon breeder tank. He has a basking rock and ladder which he loved the first few days. He also has a cool side with hides which is remaining in all of today. The basking side has a 75 watt light and an 80 watt mercury uvb bulb right next to it so they overlap. It is 108 degrees typically on that side and 80 degrees on the cool side. The humidity is a little high at 30%, but I just bought a dehumidifier to place by the tank especially at night.
When his skin turns dark, it almost looks like his skin is trying to shed. It looks very cloudy. He is always very alert, but spends most of the day sleeping and is not even basking anymore. He hasn't eaten since Monday morning. He is happy and his skin turns very light and the beautiful colors which made me select him when he is handled. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?
