hi all,

Today is the 4th day we have beardie at home. He is not eating crickets at all. We have a very small size of the crickets and every time I place him near the plate I put them in he just stares or does this (included pic). Is he super afraid of them? Anyone can chime in on how to get him to eat crickets?

For now eating mealworms 2x a day (am switching to Bsfl and silkworms as soon as I get my hands on them) and trying vegetables but he's not crazy about them will eat a few pieces here and there.

Can you give us some details on your setup? Lighting, temps, UVB type, etc. This will help us help you.

Hello there, first i would not give mealworms at his age hes a lil fellow and the mealworms body shell are hard so may cause impaction, i would wait till hes a bit bigger like 6months, and even when then only give him a couple at a time, I wouldnt make it a staple food, So i say a few mealworm every few days, U know what u could try, dubia roaches, may have to get small ones as dubias are awesome stable food source, i wish i could use dubias but wifey be damn to have a roach in the house.

Also when getting a BD they can be stress coming to new environments, so it take them a while, some are quicker then others, but mostly can take a week to a couple weeks to months, the best thing to do is just keep food in their cage, and offer crickets as needed, i say if he doesnt eat it i woulod make sure only to have a couple cricket in the cage as crickets can be annoying and just stress the BD more,

Other then that ur lil guy got some nice colors so pretty, I was trying to find a BD with orange and red colors, but could never find one and was always scared to order a BD from online as i didnt want the lil to ship in a box and not get the light and UVB they needed, Keep us posted.

I agree that mealworms are not a good idea for the little one, and dubias are awesome. If you can find small wax worms try those -they are not great as a staple, but are good treats and might get him started eating. Petco usually carries them. You could try baby carrots as a treat too. Shred them with a cheese grater so they are really fine, my beardie goes crazy for carrot. Apparently they taste really sweet to them. You could also try covering the sides of the cage so he doesn't get distracted /nervous about having people around while he is eating.

Good luck!!!

likely just having relocation stress once settled he will eat they won't starve themselves.. don't leave any crickets loose in the tank as they are nocturnal and will nibble on a sleeping dragon causing wounds...
try all sorts of different food items to see what he likes and know that they can be picky eaters lol
