Hello,

I got a baby bearded dragon about two weeks ago. He sleeps for long periods of time. At night we shut the lights off and he sleeps for about 16 hours straight. Once he wakes up he kinda hangs out in his tree and there is no real movement. He isn’t really eating. He eats 2 crickets a day if that. I put in some greens in daily and he seems to eat a piece of lettuce. I offer to give him water with the dropper but usually he doesn’t take it. I also keep a small water bowl in the cage. It seems that he is always closing his eyes. He isn’t really going to the bathroom either. I made sure that the uv and heat lights are correct. The temperature in the cage is usually at 100 degrees. I don’t want to take him to a vet but I’m concerned that something is wrong. I’m not sure how old he is. I’m thinking 1 to 2 months. I read that he wouldn’t be in burmation until at least 4 months. What should I do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Babies do not brumate --- lights and basking temps --- NO coils for a UVB you need a long tube fixture w/ a reflector -- basking temps need to be 105-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer NO stickons-- how big of a tank is he in -- he should be active basking and eating and pooping --- his eating will be off until he acclimates to his tank and surroundings but the other behavior is not good - Please NO lettuce --- you need to be offering dark greens every day along w / other veggies - here is a website for nutrition http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
ignore the kale thing its a good staple feeder --- but first you must have the correct lighting and temps in the tank
those two things are the most important things in the tank ---- it controls the overall health and behavior of the dragon --

Hi Frank I am aware that he needs more then 2 crickets a day. I am prepared to feed him 20 to 30 crickets a day. That isn’t the problem. All he wants is 2. I try and offer them to him twice a day. I know it is not normal. I put collard greens in as well and sometimes he will eat a small piece. I have the UVB lamp set up correctly as well as the heat lamps. He was in a smaller tank to begin with about 20 gallon and then a week ago I got a 70 gallon and set him up in there.- His personality has been the same since I brought him home from the Pet Store. It’s like he is depressed I just feel terrible. I was hoping for a magic answer but it seems like there isn’t one LOL Thanks!

Please divide your tank in half or put him back in the 20 gallon for now -- its going to be a lot easier w/ him in the smaller tank -- you want him eating basking and active before putting him in such a large enclosure --- please tell me the lighting your using for the tank -------------- long tube fixtures need certain placement for them to be effective --- basking temps how are you taking them and what are they --- I cannot stress the importance of these things I am asking about --- PLEASE NO COIL UVB'S --- let me know what you decide to do w/ the tank situation like I said certain placement and distance for the UVB is crucial and basking temps are hard to get in smaller tanks

Please use this advice. Also the only thing I can think of is impation. This might be unlikely but it’s good to know the symptoms anyway. Please visit this website to learn more.(I sound like a bot lol) https://www.reptiledirect.com/bearded-dragon-impaction/
