Ok - so some of you may have seen a few of my posts. I am new to the forum, and have a baby beardie named Murray that I got on Feb. 15. I've learned a lot here and really appreciate this forum! I do have a few questions and would love some input! We bought Murray on the 13th of Feb., but asked the pet store to hold him until the next day so we could get everything set up prior to bringing him home. Then, the next day we had a huge snow storm so the pet store kept him one more day for us. I don't think I stopped reading about Beardies in that 48 hours, haha, and haven't really stopped since! I may be a little obsessed!
1. Age -- how old are baby beardies typically at a pet store? We have had him for about 6 weeks now and from what I could figure out from research, he was not probably more than a week old when we got him. Does that go along with what you all know? (the first pic is Murray about a week after we brought him home, first attempt at handling.)
2. How much is too much in a Beardie's vivarium? I'm attaching pics so you can see Murray's set up. We have a 20 gallon tank (20 tall, not 20 wide -- I wish we would have done 20 wide but we will be upgrading to a 40 gallon soon). He loves to climb so we have vines, etc -- but I wonder if the floor is too crowded? He seems very happy but would like input. I take some of the driftwood out during feedings, and then add it back in. We have a basking light and uvb light (you can see the set up in the photos). With a 20 tall, it doesn't give us much room for a hot/cold side but from the thermometers it is usually about 110 on the hot side and about 80 on the cooler side.
3. Greens -- I give him Collard Greens every day. He eats them, but not much. I understand he'll eat greens/veggies a lot more as he gets older...but wondered if there is any way to entice him?
4. Crickets -- I am feeding him crickets 3 times a day (15-30 each time) but just today ordered that 50 small dubia roaches to try out...praying for courage when it comes to handling roaches, haha!
I was dusting the crickets with Calcium/Vitamin D and Multi Vitamin once a day, but have slowed down after reading some of the posts. What is the appropriate amount for this?
4. Water/drinking/bath time -- I have never seen him drink from his water bowl, and from what I have learned, it doesn't seem that baby beardies recognize standing water. Right now, he drinks from a dropper or I let drops fall off my fingers when I am holding him. I do this every day, and he gets a bath 2 or 3 times a week. Does all that sound ok?
Thank you everyone in advance!!
Last pics are of Murray today...he has grown quite a bit, I have been trying to feed him more to help with that!
