My red monster female laid fertile eggs 73 days ago and so far 3 babies have emerged from their shells. One was born with his/her tail bent at the top. Is this a birth defect? Does this increase the chances that there are other abnormalities that may impact the quality of life?

Heres the response she gave
That's exciting ! Well there can be a problem like that once in a greeeeeaat while and it is a defect but if you see more than one in a clutch then that's not a good thing. That goes for upcoming clutches as well, if the next few clutches produce another then it might be that the parent dragon was inbred to a degree but if it's a one time thing it shouldn't be a big problem. It can still probably be fine as a pet.

Thank you for getting back to me. I will wait and see what the other babies are like and definitely take that advice for future breeding.

A defect is also a defect. It can. Look for home remedies. Sometimes say the word heal. Sometimes ask for Jesus Christ.

Well I have bad news. 8 other eggs hatched with no abnormalities but the 10th baby to arrive has severe birth defects. No arms or legs. I am so sad to see this. The mother of this clutch is 100 percent red monster. I had heard there have been some issues with RM so I decided to outcross this clutch with my standard colored male who is one of the best structural dragons I have seen. My original plan was to breed this female with my other 100 percent RM male but after some more research I thought it best to outcross this time. Do you think that the fact that mother is 100 percent RM has anything to do with the birth defects? Also I really am not sure what to do with this little guy without limbs. I have considered taking him to a vet to be euthanized. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes, there have been reports that RM beardies are inbred [ I mentioned earlier that it might be the case ] and that dragon probably was. Sorry to hear it.
