She's been getting daily baths after the few watery stools she had, and seems to have improved. She is definitely well hydrated, with large, bright white urates. Since our regular vet was out of town for almost a month I ordered some Reptaid from Chameleons NW. I spent a lot of time researching and reading about parasites in bearded dragons and decided that I wanted to try this route first. I personally feel there are too many risks with conventional medications, and it seems that, more often than not, they don't seem to do the trick and cause the animal more grief that good.
She's been on the appropriate dose for her weight (300 grams) for two days now and has not had a loose stool. She's still eating like a little piggy, but instead of laying against the tile on the bottom of her enclosure for good chunks of time during the day she's been more active, basking and climbing all over stuff. She seems more alert, as well. I will continue the Reptaid through the 10 day mark, as suggested, and then take a 2 day break. It says not to give it to gravid females, and she just finished laying about a week and a half ago, so I assume it is okay to give this to her now. She has shown no adverse effects thus far.
After the course of Reptaid is over, I'm going to have a fecal done and go from there. Since she is not losing weight, refusing food, lethargic or dehydrated, I feel that this is the best course of action to take at this time. I am monitoring her very closely, just in case there is a change in her behavior.
Has anyone else used Reptaid, and if so, what were your experiences with it? I know someone on here was recommending it. Also, if you've treated your beardies for parasites with other, more conventional meds, I would like to hear about that as well. I do have some Panacur gel on hand (big tube that I bought at the reptile expo) but have not opened or used it.
