Hi I’m new here, I’m not a breeder in any way but my male/female were put together by my (grown) daughter and so I incubated her eggs after research and losing the 1st clutch I have the 2nd clutch hatch at day 65 and am on day 48 with the 3rd … the 15 babies hatched all well all eating & pooping but 3 to me have no scales and are super soft so I think are silkies and I now know this isn’t ideal, mum & dad are both leather back … do I separate these babies as I know now they need less heat/uv and they seem to getting what looks like a burnt tail right at the tip I’ve moved the heat & Uv up and further away but then worry about the other 12 not receiving enough … I know it’s all far from ideal but can anyone please help I’d hate to injure them, my son (15) is in love and we just want the best … we watch them pretty much all day.

here is her response
Yes those are silkies. Buy some aloe plants to have the gel in emergencies when you don't have lotion but get some Udderly Smooth lotion ASAP. As silkies grow they shed constantly, no time will you see them without some shed coming off. Never, ever pull it. You can soak them every week for a bit and once they're dry put some of the lotion on.

Their hot spot should be a bit less , around 90-95 tops. Use a flood bul rather than a tight beam. Don't use any decor that is obviously very sharp. Try not to leave any type of insect loose in the tank. Be aware of whoever ends up with these babies that they understand the commitment to special care. Also, people widely consider it unethical to breed these [ by 2 leatherbacks ] and will criticize it. These guys have a much harder life and not everyone can take care of them. They're adorable though.

Hi Thankyou Sadie, see honestly I didn’t know two leather backs would make silkies I’m just learning about them myself, I’ve taken the 3 and put them in a area by themselves so I can properly watch them … im
Going to look at homing them to someone who knows what they’re doing, I didn’t do this for fisncisl gain I didn’t plan on doing this at all it’s all been so last minute with the 1st clutch not making it I felt truly awful to not at least try and here we are now, I will get an aloe plant tomorrow and research the cream as I’m in the UK so I’m unsure if it’s the same thing
