Another temp question

Hi everyone! I have another temperature question.....I have switched from PetSmart basking bulb to a 50 watt Halogen from Lowes and of course I love the halogen because I finally got my temperature up(Thanks to advice from Germ and Mungi!) but what I also know about Halogens is they are smaller and therefore the basking spot may get to the right temperature but what about the temperature in the tank other than the basking spot? Basically my basking spot is 108 degrees in that one spot but my baby hangs out on his hammock and the light doesn't really get to his hammock and I just took him out to pet him and he felt kind of cold to me, so basically what I am wondering is should I just let my beardie go onto the basking spot when he is too cool or should I add another light in there for his hammock to give more heat in that area? I guess I am just not sure if the warm side of the tank has to be 108 everywhere or just in the basking spot?

Just the basking spot needs to be, he should find the temp he needs, when he needs it. I also used to have hammocks in all my enclosures, but have since removed them all. I found that some\most of my BDs liked them too much. All ages. Many got to the point that they would not get off them, to bask in proper temps or even come down to eat, after removing the hammocks there were no issues of them basking where they should be or moving around. While Sandy was on her Hammock, this was the case, I placed the sensor to check the temp on her back & left it there, she did not move enough for it to fall off for over 2.5 days when I finally took it off myself. In order for her to feed I would have to remove her from the Hammock, place her on the floor & she would go eat, bask for a very short time then back to the hammock until I would move her. I have had this happen to several of my BDs with hammocks, so as I said, I do not use them anymore.

Ok, that's good to know! :) I do agree with you about beardies liking it TOO much. Baby is always on his hammock and only seems to bask for a short time after he eats. I wonder why so many beardies are obsessed with hammocks...If I do decide to take the hammock down, should I get something else for him to hang out on while hes not basking or should I just take the hammock out and leave it? Right now I only have the basking platform and a log next to it so he can climb onto the basking spot because it's too tall for him to get up on without stepping on something else. I also don't want too much in there, but it looks so empty. What do you think is the best option?
