Ambient Temp Help

So my dragon is being delivered tomorrow. I've been running this setup for a month prior to even ordering one. I'm in multiple facebook groups and I was told this was fine until today. My cool side stay at 79-80. My basking rock is between 110 and 112, and my hotside ranges from 86 to 88. In group I was told to run my che on the hotside to at least bring the ambient temperature up to 90. My che is 150 w in a wire fixture, and my basking bulb is 100 w. Prior to today I was told my basking area is more important than ambient temperature since my ambient has been at 88.

Currently the temp on the hotside is at 91, and my cool side has gotten up to 84. I feel like it's going to jump up even higher with running the che. Do I really need to run it during the day for those 2 degrees when my basking temp is right? My dragon is a 2 month old baby.

As long as ur baby has a spot where he can get heat, the ambient temp doesn’t matter to much, unless its lower than 70, you want him to warm up but not be hot all day long.

Thank you for the reply! That's what I was thinking as well, but this group made a big deal about that 2 degrees. My tank hasn't been under 70 in any part of it for the last month. We live in a southern state. With this che being on I feels super hot in there, and the dimmer it's on feels really warm and I didn't dim it at all because it's at 91 degrees

I think 70-80 for the whole tank is fine, basking must be HOT though, people tend to keep their bearded dragons hotter than they probably should be, it gets down into the 30s-40s in Australia at night time, I always try to base my care with what everyone’s doing, their natural habitat and common sense, and with a little bit of help from people from this site :)

I have this rock for my basking side, so it's multiple levels. The top is going between 110 to 113 ish with temp gun and then other Temps on each rock level taper down to 88 without the che on. But the top is always hot. The group just made me panic thinking that 2 degrees was going to be a live or die for the dragon

What kind of uvb do u use? Ur fine, as long has they have a hot basking spot he’ll be fine, i live in FL and we always have our ac , and my enclosure is around 72-85 ambient temp, and 95 for the hot spot, my bearded dragon is almost two though, so they need it not as hot.

I have the repti sun t5 10.0 set up sitting on top of tank. His basking spot is definitely good. This makes me feel so much better.

Is the t5 a long tubular light? And do u have it on top of the screen? Its recommended they go inside the enclosure, screen with tiny holes can block out up to 30% of uvb, Whats ur distance from the basking platform and the light.

Yes is the long light it takes up 2/3s of my enclosure. Yes it's on top of the screen. I was told the t8s had to be mounted on the inside and the t5s sit on top. It's about 10 to 12 inches from the top of the basking platform

Its true, they can sit on top at ur distance, if u can though, and if its not too much to do id put it inside, ur just wasting ur uv rays, with them bouncing off the screen, its up to you though, its not a big deal cause of ur distance is good.

T 5's can sit on top of the screen as long as its a WIDE HOLE if its a fine mesh it needs to go inside the tank distance inside the tank 12-15 inches directly above the basking decor -- you want basking temps of 105-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer ---- IR guns are good but they cannot read off of hammocks and digital probes are the most accurate --- 113 is too hot --- nothing over 110 --- I would put a different piece of basking decor under the lamp and move the cave / platform -- something that will give a gradient heat so he can pick temp to bask at --- Petsmart has great decor for that

I was told that babies need between 110 to 115. I can adjust it to where it is 110. My light is on a light stand, so I can definitely fix that. There's just so much conflicting info everywhere.

Yes 113 is too hot and 115 is way too hot--- nothing over 110 --- as they get older toward juvie age 6 months or so your gonna want to drop the temp down to 95-100 --- thats why its good to have a piece of basking decor that offers gradient heat

Ok I'll fix that now. I do I have a wider holed top because the lid that came with the tank I didn't like (it had 4 sections) and this one is just one piece and the holes are bigger than what it originally had
