I am re-entering the world of Bearded Dragon companionship, and I am looking for advice on DIY enclosures.

I have an old dresser that I could like to convert into a Viv for my beardie Koop. I have researched every way imaginable about how to do this, but I'm not really getting all the information I need or maybe I'm not fully understanding it (I lack woodworking skills without step by step instructions), or I'm just not looking at the right websites or forum threads.

I need to know what plywood I can use to make the bottom stronger. What I can safely use to seal the wood. And how can I house the lighting without fear of starting a fire. I've always used a glass tank (20 gal before moving up to 40 gal breeder). So all of this is new to me.

Also, while I'm here I need to ask about basking lights. I know there is a topic on this, but I'm killing two birds with one stone. I purchased a beardie kit and I am using the dual dome light fixture that came with it until I can get a different one.

The problem I'm having is I've been through 2 basking bulbs in a little over a month. The first one went out after a month, but the second one went out after 2 weeks. The ballast works because I've put other bulbs in and they work. What alternatives do I have in terms of what I can use?

Koop is a young dragon about 8 inches in length and I have him in a 20 gal for now.

Any advice on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

What brand of bulbs are you using? All zoo med bulbs pretty much SUCK except for powersun, and dont last nearly the amount of time they say they will. I recomend a powersun or solar glow.

Never used nat geo before. The only basking bulbs that I actually have faith in are exo terra solar glow and zoo med power sun. powersun has more UV output. Exo terra basking lights might work as well, but I really like the all in one bulbs because, even though theyre expensive, your not replacing them every two weeks.
