I plan on using a bin to house crickets it is pretty big. 500 at a time. also I’m not starting a colony I don’t like the sound of crickets. So here what I’m doing

lots of hiding and climbing spots.

a dish with vegetables and calcium crickets food.

a big sponge for water

thats it do you think I need a under tank heater?
any advice would be great.

A heater wont be needed along as you house isn't below 65degrees at all . The calcium cricket food really isn't good just use carrots potatoes etc I usually use a veggie my beardie doesn't eat so she gets that value of it still from the bugs also feed them veggie scraps etc can even give them a dash of vitamins you give your beardie to the crickets on their veggie or fruits. Oranges is a great food because it also is a water source but dont feed to much oranges as the crickets can eat them beardies cannot but the beardies eating the cricket afterwards is fine just feed other fruit mainly as it acts the same like apples.
The male crickets are the ones that chirp . Them are the ones with the antennas the females crickets dont chirp

If ur doin a bin, keep the sponge soaked but not so much that theres extra drips of water , crickets are so stupid and they’ll drown, make shure your going through the bin every day and taking out dead ones, you dont want them eating their comrades thats how parasites will start.

I was purchasing 500 crickets at a time and keeping them in a large bin. I've since decreased my number as Dex doesn't seem to be eating as many of them now that he's older. The only thing I keep in their container (aside from the gel and food lids) are a couple of egg crates for climbing and hiding. You don't need much in there as you'll be getting into them daily and if your beardie is young or a juvenile he'll be eating about 500 in roughly 5-7 days (my guy did anyway) so they don't last long enough to need much more. I keep the bin in a cupboard in my office where the temp doesn't get below 70F. I bring the bin out briefly for a bit during the day so they can get some sunlight, but they don't really need and like much exposure.

Like Skybug said, try and keep them cleaned out during the week, if possible. It helps keep the smell and parasites to a minimum. And thoroughly wash the container in between cricket buys even if you have to transfer any remaining to a temporary container while you do. I completely replace the crates in between new batches too. They tend to poop all over them. lol

I use the calcium gel and cricket feed and it's perfectly fine and allows me to limit Dex's calcium dustings while keeping the bin cleaner. I have separate lids for their gel, grain, and salads. They are easier to keep clean and replace what food is needed (grain will last a bit longer than the gel or salads) with them all being separate. I change their salad twice a day each time I give Dex his (always wash the lid/food dishes each time you change up). I grab a small bit of Dex's prepped salad to give to them. They'll get water intake from the salads too just like your beardie does, especially if given fresh daily. I've never used a sponge, but I wouldn't think they'd have any issues with it as long as it wasn't sopping like Skybug said.

Hope this helps. :)

This is good advice however I am feed 30-35 per witch use enough he is growing and gaining weight great. Also yeah anothere reson why you need to clean the thing out is because when the crickets die they release a chemical that will kill other cricket. Thanks for all the advice I had no idea about what happens when the ccrciekts eat other crickets thanks.
