Hi guys, I've just signed up to this forum as I'm seriously considering getting myself a bearded dragon! I have done some research and so know the basics about dietary requirements, vivarium size and whats needed in them etc. I was hoping that some of you more experienced owners could give me some advice like what vivariums you recommend, what age to buy them from and general stuff like that?

Thank you very much for any help in advance I can't wait for your advice!

Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about advice right now because you’re only considering getting a beardie. You already know the basics and you can find all the other info online, just make sure you check your facts. I’d be happy to give you more in depth advice if you were getting it tmrw or something but until then, just buy a book if you’re interested in learning about them and their needs. Not being rude, I just know it’s better to read facts rather then listen to people give their opinions based on their experience, because you’ll end up getting different answers which can be confusing/inaccurate at times.

Thanks for the reply. I get what you mean as I'm only at the early stages. I have ordered a few books on caring for them already. My main concern was that while trying to get an early idea of the cost I've struggled to find any vivariums that fit the size requirements that I've read however I may have just read some dodgy info. Thanks again.

I paid about $100 for the things inside my beardies enclosure, already had a tank so didn’t need one but they’re usually $120-200 depending on where you look and the size but stores tend to overcharge for tanks, and supplies such as decoration so maybe ask a friend if they have an extra tank/decor or possibly check craigslist even tho that’s dangerous haha. I have my 3 month old beardie inside a 55 gallon aquarium and I think it’s the perfect size for him but will probably get him a bigger tank when he gets older, i like the 55 gallon because it will work for my beardie even when he’s fully grown, but bigger is always better :) hope you decide to get one because they’re amazing pets and well worth the work that goes into caring for them :)

Okay that seems like a reasonable price tbf, thanks for the advice! I'm pretty confident I'll end up getting one its just gonna take a lot of prep to make sure I get it all right! :)

Just chiming in on the cost of the tank. Shop around for sure. I stressed over which tank to buy the most. I really want a tank that would accommodate an adult even if I got a baby. After researching I decided that a 40 gallon 36” tank was the minimum. The prices varied wildly. I wasn’t willing to pay more than 200 for one. I found a 45 gallon tank for 114. I forgot the dimensions. I was set to buy this but I continued searching and found a 40 gallon 36” tank for 114 also. However buy signing up for their members program, for free, I only paid 57 for it. I ended up getting a baby so it’s plenty of room for now. I think it will be good for when it’s grown too.
