Hello, I just got a 3yr old male about 2 weeks ago. He isn't the healthiest boy but I'm trying to help him out. Hence why I'm here because I need some help myself.
He came to me from a home with another male that had bit a good chunk out of this boys tail. 2 half inch sections have fallen off with no blood. I have been spraying some antimicrobial on it to keep it clean. He has only pooped twice since he's been here and it's mostly loose and watery. He has been eating his greens daily and doesn't show any signs of being lethargic. A week after getting him I noticed he had a huge sperm plug that I removed but he has some really packed glands that I should help him get off.
I wanted to post a few pics of him and some of the things that worry me. So please feel free to comment.
I noticed that his side spikes are not uniform like normal spikes, but they are wavey. Has anyone ever experienced this? I also noticed his claws are kinda messed up too. It looks like the nails are pulled out from the tips of his toes. I wanted to see if I should be concerned about those as well.

I have enlisted some help w/ your dragons skin and toes ---- the femoral pores you can soak in some betadine / water bath make it look like a weak tea - soak him for 10-15 min each day til the pores become real soft then you can gently squeeze them and they should come out the waxy build up --- the tail looks black at the end please get some raw unpasteurized honey on the end of the tail --- please leave NO crickets in the tank they will go straight for the tail -- watch the end of the tail how long has it been like this? You dont want any black creeping up the tail that is infection - the honey will kill the infection
What are you using for a UVB? Please NO coils --------------- they are NO good-- you want a long tube fixture like a 24" Zoo Med T 5 HO --- please tell me what your using to get basking temps 95-100 for adult taken w/ a digital probe thermometer--

I have a full custom tank setup where he has his basking spot at 95, he has 2 uvb lights. No coils! He has a 10"in tube and a Mercury vapor. They have been tested at their heights to provide optimal uvb for for him. I will get unpasteurized honey on his tail. His tail has had black on his tail since I got him. I didn't know that was infection. After he got here he had the tip of his tail hanging off which eventuality fell off. But he had a second cut a half inch lower and then it just fell off with his last bath.

I had someone take a look at the skin and toes and this is what she said
The spikes are normal for a standard beardie that's not a leatherback or trans, some dragons are spikier than others. The owner will need to keep a sharp eye on the tail of course to make sure it does not get infected, so far [ from that pic ] it looks O.K. The toes I can't see very well but unless they're bloody then they are fine.
If the tail has been like that for a while and its not creeping up the tail that is good news --- its good you have provided a second UVB for him --- what brand and bulb are you using ?

I'm using an exotera solar glow 125w. It is for a lower and higher level, depending on where he sits on his lounge to get from the bottom to top level. Is there anything I can do about his loose stool? I had a beardie before him who would poop every other day. This boy goes about once a week and it's just watery and loose.

Ok the uvb is ok but I would recommend getting a long tube fixture a Zoo Med either a T 5 or T 8 there is a difference in the bulbs the T 5 is stronger and can sit on top of the screen but your screen MUST be a wide hole type- the T 8 MUST go inside the tank -- certain distance is also key here- what is the diet your feeding him? Uvb plays a big role in the pooping dept- the solar glow is not giving off enough uvb- so in order to help the pooping we need to determine the cause and that we will need to start ruling things out- are you feeding crickets? What about smell ? Is it so bad that it makes you leave the room?

I am feeding him arugula and spinach, butternut squash, 1 raspberry every other day, calcium powder. That is his regular diet. I have Dubia for him but have not given him any just yet. Getting the colony established and they are kinda small at the moment. I worry about impaction as well if he isn't doing good digestive wise.

He needs protein at least 2-3 times per week - insects should be dusted w/ calcium w/ d 3 at least once or twice a week - if you get a T 5 then you will need a calcium w/ out D 3 no phosphorus- proper basking temps and good uvb is crucial to his digestion
