“Cracking” the tail?

Some people “crack” their knuckles. My guy was on my shoulder, started climbing down my arm and felt unsure, and regrabbed for security. It sounded like his tail “cracked” when he wrapped it around my arm. I set him back in enclosure and touched his tail here and there and he doesn’t seem to have any pain.
Maybe just hasn’t moved his tail that much and was a little stiff and made that noise while it was “loosening”?
