Hey guys! So we got a baby beardie yesterday but he/she stays hidden in the cave we have in there. We decided to move the cave to the colder side and put the smaller hideout up the warmer end to see of it helps but now he just hides under that is this normal as he/she is new? We did a feed this morning which was good ... he ate 5 locusts which we coated in the vit powder, happy days! Just worried he/she isnt getting the UVB needed hiding under things!? Any advice please? Thanks

The MOST IMPORTANT thing in the tank is basking temps and UVB --- the tank is of good size --- please go over the brand and bulb of the UVB and basking temps and how your are taking them ------ NO COILS for UVB and you need a digital probe thermometer NO stick ons they are inaccurate for basking temps---- Please get rid of the loose substrate it causes impaction and harbors bacteria -- you can get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner - easy to clean up w/ vinegar/ water 50/50 solution cut to the size of the tank and insects cannot get underneath -- w/ your dragon hiding is not good he needs to be out basking --- something is off in the tank -- how old is the dragon? Does your calcium have D3 -- the vita powder is that just vitamins?

Hey, thanks for your reply! Hes about 12weeks. He has been coming out abit more so we moved the cave back upto the warm end but now hes hiding again ‍♀️ hes eating locusts but not bothered about the meal worms or veggies. Would it be too much to take his hodes out until hes more settled? Thanks

Check to see if the vitamins has the beta carotene instead of the actual Vit A-- Hes very young and his lighting plays a huge role in the early part of life -- please go over the lighting UVB and basking temps and how your taking them as I asked in my first post --- for him to be hiding this could be the cause but we must start there and / him eating and hiding and not doing any basking that is not good and eventually he will quit eating

The hiding could also be caused by relocation stress. If he continues to hide for more than a day or two it might be a lighting issue.
Once he is 6 months or older you can switch to a loose substrate that doesn't clump, such as certain types of soil. Pure sand and most substrates you can get at the pet store should be avoided. Mealworms can be dangerous for young dragons because of their high chitin (shell) to meat ratio, and they're not very nutritious.
