Hello, my kids and I are very new to this. We bought our dragon about 4 days ago. I had a question about the uvb light, do I need a 10.0 or can I use two 5.0 bulbs? The kit we picked up came with a 5.0 uvb and 100w basking bulb.

Welcome to the forum- your going to need to get another tank --- dragons need floor space not height and when they are young they think they are superman and can fly so w/ the height of the tank its not a good idea - he can get hurt trying to jump etc---------- 5.0 bulbs can be used but w/ the height of your tank its not wise - they haft to be a certain distance and the distance for a 5.0 also known as a T 8 is 6-8 inches directly above the basking decor inside the tank w/ NO cover over the bulb it needs to be exposed - so w/ what your using now and going forward I would get a 10.0 bulb and distance w/ them is 12-15 inches directly above the basking decor -- make sure your using a digital probe thermometer to get accurate basking temps - place the probe on the spot where he sits for basking 10 minutes or so get the temp 105-110 for a baby - you can use stick ons for ambient temps they should be 65-75 at nite NO COLORED BULBS NO SAND NO HEAT MATS OR ROCKS please -- he needs middle of the tank 90's and cool side of tank 80's during the day -- hes going to need a 75-120 gallon tank by the time hes a year old --- he will out grow the one hes in now very fast - make sure hes getting fresh salads every day and insects dusted w/ calcium D3 5 x per week ONCE per feeding vitamins w/ beta carotene 2 x per week ONCE per day lightly coated w/ both -- the basking temps and UVB are crucial to the over all health and behavior of the dragon --- it is imperative they are correct or the dragon will quit eating along w/ other health issues --- I can post websites for you for insects w/ worms and a nutrition website for you -- if you have anymore questions please ask --

Welcome to the forum :) congratulations on your new family member, Please listen to sadie, she’s pretty good with advice, unfortunately the enclosure is pretty tall,….. but it might be too late to return it huh? Dragons are very clumsy, and NOT Arboreal, they’ll climb a downed tree, but thats about it, please please put down some towels in the bottom of the enclosure, your dragon WILL have joint issues if you dont, please tell us all you can about how you’re caring for said dragon, ive attached some pictures of things i personally use, if you have any questions please do ask, theres no such thing as a silly question :)
