We wanted to take a little time out to explain what we are doing at mybeardie.com to protect against SPAM especially due to the recent posting that was undoubtedly inappropriate for this forum. I will also explain a little bit of current day SPAM practices as detailed by several technical journals around the globe.

First and foremost, SPAM is not tolerated here and we do everything that we can, short of a large team of moderators, to scour the forum. As you are all well aware, the registration process for our forum requires a "captcha-like" entry upon original submission. This is the jumbled letters that you must type to prove you are human.

There are automated tools that are getting better and better at guessing these so this one thing alone is not the answer. Therefore, we also require a verification link to be clicked that is sent to the registering email address. This proves a valid email address, however and once again, this can be automated by individuals and companies that spam for a living.

We have made numerous modifications to the default installation of this forum software to also assist in combating spam by ensuring a human being is on the other end. Not that long ago this was enough. However, the global economy assisted in making spam a multi-billion dollar industry and one that can now employ hundreds of thousands of people.

Many of the research companies that trend spam practices around the world have seen that companies actual hire real humans to spam the old fashion way - by hand! Of course with many of the tools that help make the process somewhat automated and therefore very efficient, such as automating the registration form submission and the posting once registered. This allows clerical experts the ability to post hundreds, if not thousands, of spam messages an hour. With the proper low wage, this is still extremely profitable for them.

So please hang in there, and please report anything you see as we are being as responsive as we can, and your reports of spam help us respond quickly.

Thanks as always.
