So I have my bearded dragon Haku, he's about 6 months old. he just got moved into a 40 gallon and I had been using a flat piece of driftwood has basking, but with the new tank, I cant lean it so it's secure anymore. I have some old broken stepping stoned stacked under that he seems to like right now but I'm not sure.

My general question is, what is safe? His favorite furniture is a plastic stone looking thing that's almost a bridge that is hallowed out inside, but it gets so hot that it'll stink and he gets uncomfortable and leaves. I don't want to use wood, as the people in living with are afraid of it catching on fire. I'm thinking the stepping stones are nice, but I'm not sure what would be best so he can get his heat.

Stones are good, just make sure they are secure and can't fall on him. I use big garden bricks for my boy's basking spot. He loves it.

I try keep my tanks simple. But I get carried away. Anyway, home depot 78¢ bricks & $1.25 square ft slate/stone tile makes a great hide/basking area. The slate is also a nice substrate if you cut it to your tanks dimensions. I always start my decorating with a nice piece of wood to set them up nicely under the uvb bulb & I attach hammocks to it from both ends.

Here is a pic of my new tank I'm getting ready for my new female that will be here on Wednesday. Same concept, log under uvb. 2 hides. Hammocks & cat scratching thing. My dragons love to lay on their cat scratching thing & look out & watch us all day.

I love the cat scratcher idea. Mine like the cardboard ones we have for our cat and love to sit on it or under it.

They love to sit on the cat scratcher perched up on the window cill. & they watch the cars go bye. I was thinking about getting one of those carpeted cat towers for them to sit by the back window when the sun shines through. Anyone have one of those? I'm curious if they would use it.

When my dragons were little and I was giving them time out of their tanks I would put them in the cat tower and supervise them, they loved it.

Just be gentle getting them off it! Mine had some poles that were wrapped with rope and it was almost impossible to pull the dragons off.

Dovah has a large chunk of rose quartz for a couch. I got it from a local gold mine tourist attraction, but any rock shop will have cool large stones ranging from cheap to ridiculous.
