hey guys!
I have a quick question about my beardies diet,
so Reptar is about three months and I feed her about 10-20 crickets a day. Sometimes more sometimes less. I give her a variety of veggies such as carrots, basil, green peppers (not very nutritional I know these are just occasional.), parsley (also occasional), collard greens, and yellow squash. I also give her around five mealworms a week here and there as treats. I recently was stuck inside due to a very bad snow storm and had to give her some of my last resort food which was flukers pellets and didn’t know if it was okay to give her those occasionally if I am giving her a otherwise healthy and well balanced diet? I don’t feed her pellets everday Just the days when I have to leave my home for 10 hours and i don’t want to leave crickets roaming around (since I heard they can bite). I just didn’t know if these pellets could hurt her? thanks for the help!!
Ps. I also NEVER give her the big bugs in this jar since I know they can cause impaction. And the only dead bugs she has from it are broken up mealworms- is this dangerous or bad?

I would ditch the pellets and leave her a salad w/ some BSFL in a glass or ceramic bowl that they can't get outbof- dubia roaches work better than crickets and those you can leave in the bowl as well-- when you get home offer more roaches just don't feed less than 2-3 hrs before lights out---

If anything I’d up his protein a little bit just because their diet should me 80% protein and 20% veggies. I remember when my little Starbucks was a baby he hated veggies and could consume at least 60 crickets a day (I had no clue where he was putting all of them though ). It’s good that yours is eating veggies so I would keep that up. And with the pellets maybe add a little bit of water to it just so he stays hydrated or use it as a topper on his salad.

What I do with my baby is I feed 7-10 crickets in the mornin. Then I leave out greens and during lunch time he will come down to eat it and then at night I do 5-7 crickets. thats how I do it. but all you have to do is make sure there are fed 2-3 times a day with at most 15 cricket.

Your baby should be eating as many as she can eat in a 10-15 minute time frame- 7-10 crickets each feeding is not enough- more like 20-30 per feeding crickets are not very filling-- if you switch to dubias then 10-15 for a baby maybe depending on the size of the roach- the bigger the roach gets the less they will eat but you must feed the size they can eat - nothing bigger than the size between the eyes length wise-- blaze was downing 20 dubias in the morning-- that's when I added small supers bsfl and small silk worms to his salads- his roach intake dropped cuz he was eating a variety - silk and BSFL are staple feeders

Pet stores are terribly expensive most get their insects on line they are cheaper - crickets die off to quickly dubias last a long time plus there are easy to keep they don't stink they don't chirp and they are more filling and better nutrition wise-- I have plenty of websites if you want to try

You can offer pellets as a treat, but keep in mind they're usually too low in protein and fat. Repashy gel (beardie buffet or grub pie) is much higher in nutrients and you can make it the night before and leave it in the enclosure while you're gone. The only problem is that it's pretty expensive and takes a few minutes to prepare. It would probably be better for your situation, especially in emergencies.

Okay one more thing this is really random but kind of concerning is that Reptar will get as flat as paper every time she drinks water and I don’t know if this is normal?

Is she drinking in the bath or in her tank? That is odd never heard of a dragon doing that

Zontar is going on 10 years and he has always gone flat as a pancake in water. I never thought the behaviour abnormal. It’s almost like he’s trying to suck in all the moisture up.

Whenever she drinks it through her mouth, her stomach will kinda just become super flat like there is nothing in there. This happens in the tank and in the bath although she does normally drink in the bath. Is this something to consult a vet about? Should I make an appontjent?

Mine will flatten out in the bath but for the most part it's not after drinking - it's just them sitting in the water- my guess it's them relaxing- as long as she's acting normal after afterwards then I wouldn't be concerned

Ok. She usally fills back out within 10 minutes I assume since when I check back on her she is back to normal no stress marks or black beard. Thanks though for the reassurance haha!

No worries luv and don’t feel bad you are definitely not starving her it’s just very easy to underestimate their stomach capacity. What I did because my beardie didn’t like veggies is that I wouldn’t feed him 20-30 crickets 3 times a day again sometimes it was more than that but he ate this many since he was a month old to about 7 months old and that’s when he finally started to like greens. While you don’t have to feed him this many again because yours does eat greens I would up it to maybe around 20-30 a day. They do need more protein because they do a lot of growing in the first year of their life and that takes a lot of energy which they get from their protein. Hope this helps and you are doing great with her
