Hey all. Been reading through many of the feeding threads and all good advice for those of us needing it. Ours is about 3+ months old and eats mostly crickets, kale and a little sweet bell peppers. Haven’t seen any store with the worms mentioned, at least not alive.

Any advice on keeping crickets alive? Besides keeping them in a container with plenty of air and a little water many still die. Just didn’t know if there was something I’m missing to keep them from dying?

Thanks!

Keep them at a cooler temp, nothing really above 80, give them greens or potatoes. Yes some will still die. I just feed them the greens I feed my dragons (gutload) that’s what’s worked for me

I had a lot of trouble keeping them alive too, the petshop told me it was humidity killing them told me to buy rabbit wood pellets but the bag was huge and I didn't need all that.... but my husband and I have a smoker and we use wood chips in it, I put a small bowl in with the crickets and boom they stayed alive for more than a week with potatos for food

High humidity without good ventilation will wipe them out soo quickly.. It's a trial and error kind of thing with them what works for one won't for another.. they are also very fragile to odors I found out the hard way even the cat box couldn't be in the same room..
It's important to remember keys: low humidity, ventilation, temps that are stable and around 78F plus a few degrees, clean out any dead asap, plenty of room as they do not like to be ontop of eachother. Feed them items that you would want your dragon to eat as you want them to be nutritious for your dragon. You can feed them the stems from your greens, other veggies you have around..They also should get fed a good dry chow and water crystals..

Don't put water in with the crickets you want to put a water source in, something they can suck the water out of but not drown in. We use Miracle Grow water crystals, a small bag lasts you years. When I used crickets I also gave them the stems from the greens I gave the dragons. They also need to hide so lots of egg crates for them to hide helps.
