Hi Folks... Just want to firstly say how much we appreciate everyone that has visited Mungi's Live Cam Feed and all of the great comments he has received. Mungi as most have witnessed loves his video cam and loves to ham for his fans.
For the time being though his cam feed will be down because our Mungi came down very ill this last week and is not doing well at the moment.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent vet who is real lizard fanatic and specialist in their care that is assisting us with Mungi's treatment and with her help and some prayers we are hoping that he will be up for some more 'WebCam Hammin' again real soon.
The BDF will of course be the very first to know when Mungi Goes Live Again;-)
This is another reminder of just how fast things can go awry when dealing with these beautiful creatures and reptiles in general for that matter and that sometimes even when you know everything you are doing is spot on and sometimes when they appear very healthy and fine that they can mask things and you don't get a clue until things get serious....Mungi had began backing away from his food a little at a time over the past few weeks...not normally a concern because he has done so in the past at times. To be honest he was showing absolute classic signs of beginning a brumation cycle so there was no real worry. Two weeks ago we had a fecal float done to rule out any parasite problems just in case he was about to brumate and also because I had noticed some weight loss. That first fecal float came back "normal" but then this past weekend there was a very noticable change in him that told me he needed to be checked further. The 2nd fecal float came back showing that he has a very bad Coccidia outbreak and what was more spooky is that most of Mungi's weight was water weight which had masked just how much muscle weight he had truly been loosing over the previous weeks. That's a scary thing to see because Mungi is weighed weekly and always has been and I hadn't noticed on my scales that significant a drop.
Anyway as I stated above he is now being treated and on 3 medications and hopefully those will clear the problem and get him back on the road to being the big dragon he was again soon.
I have stated in posts to others here in the forum on more than one occasion that perhaps one of the best and most important things we can do as caretakers for these creatures is to OBSERVE them. Had I not spent all the hours I have watching Mungi then the differences in his behavior would not have triggered a red flag that I should watch him closer and I could have just continued to think he was about to brumate and stopped observing and paying attention and even after the first fecal float I could have laxed my observation of him and then totally missed when he finally gave me clear sign he was in trouble.
OBSERVATION...doesn't mean constantly handling and fussing and fawning...but instead just spending time watching your dragon...it's one of the most important things you can do
Enjoy Your Weekend, Folks and we would appreciate if you all would take a moment and send a lil good energy out for Mungi...good energy can work miracles
