Hi all,

Im not new to owning reptiles, my dad always had at least one in the house while i was growing up. I am new to this forum though!

I found this forum from a link in tortoise forum. I'm sure some of you guys also have torts and use that forum too. I also have a redfoot and my username is Spoilers over there ;)

Anyway, I just got a beardie today and wanted to show smaug off and maybe get a few pointers too! It's been a while since I've had a beardie, i was like 7 and didn't actually care for it, my dad did for me. I was told smaug is 8-10 months old but he's a pretty good size even though he isn't full grown yet.

The previous owner luckily had done research so i got the good uvb lights instead of curly bulbs and a nice heat lamp as well as a custom hide and a built in area for water in the 75 gallon tank. He had the water area a little high so i didn't fill it up all the way and put a stone in it for better access. I know some people don't even keep water in their enclosures but i like giving my pets access to it even if they don't use it.

His cold side reads 75° right now and his basking side says 82° but my heat lamp can go higher if i adjust the dial.

Smaug was previously eating dried worms for sure and maybe some other stuff?
I gave him some live crickets, kale and yellow squash today and he loved it.

I also added some succulents to his enclosure and a few fake plants. He hasn't tried to eat them yet so i think they are good to stay!

Cute! Check out the nutrition chart at Beautifuldragons.com. Kale is okay to feed as long as you are mixing it in with other healthy greens such as collards, mustards and dandelion.

He definitely gets other greens daily as well as kale, squash and crickets and the occasional fruit as a treat (very rarely). I have a redfoot tortoise that mostly eats greens fruits and veggies so I've always got a good variety to give to smaug as well.
