Leash/harness

Hi I have a 7-9 month old beardie and I want to bring him outside but I don't have a leash. I tried to make some sort of harness around his front legs but he didn't let me put it on. Does anyone have any recommendations of how to put one on and/or how to make one that is escape proof because my beardie tries to run away whenever I put him on the floor of my room. He is pretty quick and I can usually catch him but obviously I'd rather not risk it.

I have one from amazon. It comes in adjustable sizes so he can keep it his whole life.
