He's basking - looks pretty normal and is safe - the only lights I've read about that can hurt their eyes are colored bulbs. :0)

I agree, no colored bulbs, and I would go as far as suggesting using a ceramic heat emitter as opposed to a regular white bulb. The brightness of the light can mess with them.
