Hi! So I used to rescue reptiles, but have since stopped. But beginning of last summer, a bearded dragon was dumped on me by a school who didn’t want him and he is in pretty bad shape. I took him in. I’ve had him for 8 months and he is almost 100% better! I asked the school if they could at least tell me how old he is, and they said he turned 1 late janurary or early February. He is about 1 foot long now and looks and sheds perfectly. I weighed him today and he was 101 grams. That seems really low. When I got him he was super underweight. Is that an ok weight for him? Is it possible that is growth is stunted? Every weight chart I look at says he should be way heavierHe eats every other day, his temps and humidity are perfect, and he passed his fecal test. Please help! Thanks!

I am a new beardie owner myself and my dragon just turned 5 months old and is 148 grams, so 101 seems really low to me too. I hope someone here has some advice for you.

I am hoping that he is just not as old as they say he is. I checked his fat pads, they are fine. And he has a very chubby belly too.

Sounds a bit low but with the right lights and care he can easily put some weight on and grow a bit bigger. I've seen 2 year olds that look like 2 month olds but with the right care have gotten bigger.

Do you have a picture of your guy? What is your set up like?

I don’t have any good pictures right now, but when I get home I’ll take a a good one of him. He has 10.0 uvb, 12 inches away. He has a 115 Fahrenheit basking sire and a cool side level of about 80-85. His temps drop to about 75 at night. He is in a 36x24x24 currently. He basks regularly. He sheds fine. He has safe water. He pretty much looks like he is healthy and has passed all health exams.

He doesn't look bad at all! I mean he looks small for a year but proportion wise he looks good. He's a good weight for his length.

Thank you for responding, in the past two days he has gained 10 grams. Maybe he just isn’t a year old like the school said. Any guesses on how old he could be?

It's really hard to tell how old they are because there are so many husbandry factors that go into their growth.
