I just got a sweet little baby bearded dragon maybe 2 weeks ago. She is so sweet & loves to hang out with me and get out of her enclosure.
But when she is in her enclosure she seems so sad. She always has her eyes closed? She isn’t sleeping because she will open them when I go over to her. Like she always has them closed?
Her tank is a 40 gallon. Average 30% humidity. Around 85 on cool side and 95 on warm side. 105-115 in hot spot. She sits just right outside of her hot spot. Has plenty of decor and hides. She eats crickets, greens, blueberries sometimes and ofc always dust with calcium.
Not sure if that’s just her personality or what?
When I have her out of her enclosure she runs around and seems so happy. She runs all over me and on the bed. She isn’t skiddish at all. But as soon as I put her back in there she goes to one spot, closes her eyes and just sits there. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for any info/tips

This is her right now. I think she knows I’m worried about her so she’s being dramatic

Your going in the right direction -- the 115 is too hot w/ her sitting off to the side thats telling you the surface basking temp is too hot -temps for surface basking should be 105-110 no hotter -- are you getting those temps w/ a digital probe thermometer? You did not mention a UVB -- what are you using? The eye closing could be shed coming on or UVB if its a coil they are no good -- please tell me what your using

I’m using a bulb uvb right now but it’s a really good one. I will turn off her heater then, it stays around 105 with just her uvb on. I just a digital laser thermometer. And I think she is going into shed she’s getting a lot lighter in color over the past couple of days. Is it okay to hold her in shed or let her do her thing?

Brand and bulb of the UVB please this is critical-- UVB's do not emit heat so to speak -- are you using a MVB - that would be a all in one bulb for heat and UVB? We need to get this on par -- please let her acclimate to her tank and surroundings I would not be holding her too much inside the tank is best - they are very quick and like to jump so if your holding her outside the tank and she jumps off of you she can hurt herself really bad -- its best in the tank 5 min at a time --

This is the bulb “ReptiSUN UVB 10.0 Compact Fluorescent” and I will send a picture of how much heat her uvb puts off. (The pic is with uvb bulb only on for about 10mins this morning)

The other bulb is a red 100watt heat only bulb. That is a uvb only bulb as well.

Please get rid of the red bulb immediately-- they will disrupt sleep and will cause long term eye damage to the 3rd eye on their head -- next get rid of the compact UVB they will cause all kinds of health problems and sometimes cause eye issues as well -- you want one good clear bright white basking bulb examples are Flukers basking found at Walmart you will need to do a search for them on their website and can be shipped to you or some pet stores carry them I get mine thru Walmart when I do my on line ordering for groceries - another one is Exo Terra Intense or Arcadia Halogen -- next you want a long tube fixture for a UVB 24" for a 40 + gallon tank
here are some links for you
Zoo Med comes w/ a 5.0 bulb you want the Reptisun 10.0 T 5 bulb
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...d-reptisun-10-0-uvb-t5?variant=26907418591332
they are sold out of bulbs on Josh's frogs and sold out of 24" fixtures on pangeareptiles
you can look at other places for the fixtures and bulbs - sometimes PetSmarts will sell them depends on where you are
https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle.../products/arcadia-prot5-12-uvb-bulb-with-hood you want the 12% bulb 24 watt
this one you want the 2ft or 24" fixture and you will need to change the bulb out to the Reptisun posted above https://hydrobuilder.com/sunblaster...mp.html?opts=eyJhdHRyaWJ1dGU5MDEiOiI2NjEwIn0=
When you get the UVB please post back on here I will help you set it up for the screen on the tank - its going to determine where the UVB goes and distanced
Also please get 2 digital probe thermometers - Zoo Med sells them- they are the most accurate for surface basking temps

Hello,

As Sadie has suggested, the better UVB light would be the long tube bulb. The compact/coil UVB
lights are hard on their eyes so that's likely why she is avoiding sitting under it.
The temperature range can be 95F to 110F for basking & 75F-80F for the cool side.
Has he been eating very much too?
