Hi All,

My beardie (3 years old), is going into brumation for the first time ( i think). However, he is sleeping in the hot end, not the cool end. He stopped eating 3 weeks ago, and poo s just urate when he is awake. Last time it was a clear jelly. He doesn't appear to be I'll, although his beard has gone black a couple of times (since I turned the temps up). Is this normal? I thought they Brumate in the cold end of the Viv and in a hide. Very confused.

Many thanks

Lisa

Brumation varies between dragons. When mine fully want to sleep, they go into their hide on the cool side of the tank and sleep for days. When they want to just be lazy, they sit under their hammock on the warm side of the tank. One of my girls, drapes herself over her basking log like she's completely exhausted. She'll sit there for a few days then go back in her hide.

My beardie does the same, lounges on his log and doesn't move, well apart from his eyes . He's lost 20grams in weight in about 6 weeks. Is this normal?

They really shouldn't lose that much weight when they go into brumation. I would have a fecal done to rule out parasites.

Ok, thanks. I thought they lose a little weight. He's drinking water fine, just don't eat. I'll get the vets to check him over.

Yea I would have him checked out and hopefully a fecal test done to rule out parasites maybe that's why he's not really acting like normal brumation..and yea they really shouldn't loose but maybe 5 or so grams if any at all...it kinda sounds like his belly isn't feeling great so he's not going to the cool side..You want to do fecals before fall and then in the Spring..

Thanks. I'm not sure how I will get a fecal done as he isn't pooing at the moment. I'll have to wait until he does ☹. I suppose the fact that he is drinking is a good thing, as he doesn't usually. He came out a few days ago, had a run around then back to his log.
