Beardie Respiraty Infection??

Hey all

Just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this possible symptom? I have noticed my beardie most mornings puffs his beard out. But it looks like he is really pushing it sometimes and sometimes opens his mouth as if hes doing a huge yawn. Now i have done abit kf reading snd come across this is one of the symptoms of an upper respiarty infection? I have a video but its too large the file i try screen shot or reduce it down of him this morning doing it. The other thing is i am reallt struggling with humidity in his viv its always between 40-50% and i know this is too high. Any ideas on how to reduce this? I was going to take him to vets but there are only 2 in my area and one is a specialist in exoctics and has written books but its £54 for a consultation before any treatment. I would rather try and diagnose if it is an infection or not before i take him and for it too be nothing. He is around 6-7 months old so i know he is starting to mature could it just be him stretching or showing off? Any help or ideas will be really appreciated.

Thanks

Drogo & Joe

A small table top dehumidifier next to to the tank would help. 40-50% isn't horrible. All dragons puff their beard out in the morning when they wake up and open their mouth to do a yawn, we call it the beard stretch. If it was an RI, he would have excess mucous in his mouth, maybe coming out his eyes. He'd be lethargic and not wanting to eat. If you suspect it is an RI you can bump up his basking temp a few degrees and get him to a vet for a check. It sounds like he's just stretching though.

Yep i had this same problem with mine. Caught her doing the beard stretch. Very aggressively pushing it out a few times and then a very big yawn. And i panicked thinking she was trying to throw up or it was a RI. Went to the vet and everything. Scared me to death. Its certainly a very odd ritual they do. Now i know better but still every time i see her doing it I'm like "omg are you okay??" lol

just wait till you see your beardies eyes nearly popping out.. itll freak you out, luckily its just them trying to pop off the shed around the eyes, at least in most cases, im sure theres been a case where there was a legit problem

If you can hear him breathing or making a slight bubbling/clicking sound while breathing, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and have him checked by a vet. Put him on your shoulder next to your ear and listen for anything unusual.
