Basking light issue

Hi everyone... sorry for the constant questions I just want to make sure I’m getting everything right. For skeeters new enclosure I’m having the hardest time getting his basking temperatures right. His 40g breeder had a 100 watt reptile basking bulb and I have had to drop to a 50 watt in his new enclosure and that’s still pushing his basking temperatures to about 114 degrees. I have seen everyone talking about using house bulbs but I don’t know which ones are okay to use and I have seen so many different opinions on regular bulbs to halogen bulbs and I have no idea which ones to even try. Also I’ve seen to try and use a dimmer but when I went to Home Depot they said it was something I installed into my wall? So I’m not understanding what kind of dimmer everyone is talking about. Any help on what bulbs to use would be much appreciated. His enclosure is 48x24x24 and solid with glass doors. Thank you!

Hi, search on amazon for 'dimming thermostat', you are looking for something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Habistat-D...84&sr=8-1&keywords=reptile+dimming+thermostat
You can buy just dimmers without the thermostat, but they (stats) are handy for keeping temps at a constant level. I would use with a halogen spot light.
You could use a household dimmer from home depot if you really wanted to, but you would have to mount it on a board with a backplate and do some creative wiring. I think its better to go with something thats built for the purpose.

You could also make your baking spot lower so that it doesn't heat up so much.
