Hi, I just took in an 8 yr old beardieyesterday, appears to be male. He's skin and bones and has a tremor. I'm assuming it's MBD. Friendly but drools as well. I'm thinking warm water soaks every other day, sun, diet change like adding calcium to his salad. Possible injections by a vet.

Anything to add or any advice?

Thanks

The drooling could be a RI ---- please get him into the vet and have him checked for a RI ----- my guess hes had incorrect surface basking temps and UVB --- those are the two main culprits for RI along w/ very low humidity in the tank --- www.arav.org if your in a small area / town type in a bigger cities zip code --- if you take him in NO enemas -- please take a fecal w/ you --- feed him some baby food pumpkin w/ a drop or two of olive oil and a drop of honey that will make him go to the bathroom - 24 hr sample--
to get him on the track of recovery he needs these things I am posting
24" https://www.petmountain.com/product/zoo-med-reptisun-t5-ho-high-output-terrarium-hood?variant=40651
this is for a 40+ gallon tank w / this bulb 22" https://www.petmountain.com/product/zoo-med-reptisun-t5-ho-100-uvb-high-output-bulbs?variant=40630 they are out of stock here but you can look for it on this site www.pangeareptiles.com
or you can look at your local Pet Smart if you have one
24" https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...-12-uvb-bulb-with-hood?variant=39549895475242 you want the 12% bulb this fixture can be found at Pet Smart if you have one -- when you get this or if you have one of these already please let me know so I can help you get it placed for your tank - the screen will determine where it goes
Surface basking temps should be 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer -- please invest in a ceramic heat emitter https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...o-med-repticare-ceramic-infrared-heat-emitter also a dome https://www.pangeareptile.com/products/zoo-med-mini-deep-dome?_pos=4&_sid=bd8724309&_ss=r
2 of these digital probe thermometers https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...meters-1/products/zoo-med-digital-thermometer
this stuff I listed for you is imperative to his health --- if he does have a RI going hes going to need heat at night till hes over the RI -- temps in the tank should be around 80 to help w/ his immune system --
NO more baths please --- the RI is not going to get any better w/ all the bathing
Outside is good for now the more UVB exposure the better ---
what are you feeding him? Calcium D3 should be dusted on the insects --- but you must have a good UVB like the ones I posted for him to get better - can he walk how bad is the MBD?

Drooling, stopped since I placed him my 80 gallon tank? Might be bigger than 80 gallon. Seems to be one and half the size of my 100 gallon fish tank. I found out he was soaked right before I picked him up.

I have a 80 gallon tank with built-in basking light and uvb light. the hot side runs for about 103, 90 on the cooler side.

I have a bunch of zoo med calcium and repti calcium from my turtles and tortoises.

I started a mealworm/ dubia roach colony for the dragons few months back. Have a standing order for super worms.
The substrate is just coco coir? cococoir dirt thingy? I don't know what is called but it's the same stuff I use for my tortoise enclosures to maintain humidity. One of those brick thing that you soak to expand. Speaking of humidity, it's kept between 31 - 36% in the enclosure.

He walks fine, he just has these spasms with his head which was what led me to think it's MBD.

He's super skinny tho.

He belonged to a kid that has recently gone to college. I guess the dad wasn't taking care of him but it seem like he wasn't well taken care of before. The kid seems to love him but he just does not look like he was loved. He's pretty friendly. He ate some superworms and a salad since he came back with me.
I have a 40 gallon set up in the yard for natural sun light.

the enclosure is in my room.

All in all he seems better now.

Still planning for a vet visit but also would like to know how to fatten him up

Get some coconut oil and put on the femoral pores do that till they are nice and soft ---- then gently squeeze and they should pop ----- the coconut stuff you have as a substrate will cause RI's please get rid of it - the stuff is too dusty---- please tell me what your using for a UVB how old is the bulb -- there is a difference between the two bulb if your using a long tube fixture -- T 8's and T 5's have certain placement and distance they should be ---- you want a T 5 for a 40 + gallon tank the head tremors is not good this is where the UVB comes in --- you dont want to fatten him up -- get him on a good diet that is the main thing http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html ignore the kale info it is outdated
a good staple diet of dubias and salads - treat worms like supers horn meal worms are all good - if feeding wax worms feed them very sparingly - they are real fatty and can cause liver issues -- just get him on a good diet and he will start to gain weight- the main thing at this point is collect a fecal and take to the vet w/ you - a parasite test would be good --
