So I have been reading quite a bit on foods for my Dragon, he/she is six months old ish....
I just ordered the bearded dragon package from Georgia crickets… Awesome packaging 98% live when arrived, super happy tons of bugs.

I just need help on which worms are staple foods and which one are treats. Any help would be great

I fed my lizard some of the roaches last night and he went crazy, also the large super worms were a hit.
Bfl too.
Thanks!!!
S...

I am not sure which bugs you got but I checked the bearded dragon pack you mentioned.
Mealworms (not really reccomended for beardies) superworms (large mealworms), butterworms, and waxworms would be the treat bugs, while the others can be used as staples.

Sucks that they include so many treat bugs

Superworms are a favourite among most beardies, but they have a lot of fat and exoskeleton so you need to be a bit careful about feeding too many,

Among the bugs in that pack, the roaches and Phoenix Worms are the best daily feeders, not saying the others are bad, just less nutrients and more fat.

Seems like you cannot dust the roaches very well

Yep just dust the roaches, phoenix worms, superworms are a good staple in moderation..and the rest are good treats no mealworms. You can also feed silkworms they just need different food.

Super worms aren't large meal worms, they look like it but they are different.

Supers are Zophobas morio
Meals are Tenebrio molitor
They are both darkling beetles but different types. Meal worms have a harder exoskeleton than the supers do. Supers are a good every day staple but they do have a higher fat content so you don't want to feed too much.

I am sorry, I oversimplified when I should not, they are a large "cousin" of the mealworm, but not the same species.

How often are beardies supposed to be given 'treats'? once a week? or less? I bought some wax worms, as they were the only suitable sized worms my pet store had. My oh my, I was not expecting the reaction I got from my dragons, they almost came through the glass to get them! I was picking them out of the bran stuff they come in and I heard a loud thud, looked up and both were pressed up against the glass watching me. put a few on a spoon and Percy tried to get the entire spoon in his mouth!. I dont want to overdo it though, how much is enough?

Love it! Large "cousins"! I might steal that.

Once a week is good for treats. I don't think I ever tried to give my beardies wax worms but my chameleon acts like they are crack!

I place them in a container with calcium dust and shake, the dust will stick to them pretty well
That's exactly what we figured out that works. That way we also don't waste a bunch of calcium. We just a a container that we transfer roaches from the colony to, dust them then feed them to Puff :)
