Just be carefully using play sand as if the BD swallows it it acts like concrete and blocks the guts. I have seen a few of these and they don't always turn out well.

I would get that looked at sooner than later. You can bathe the eye with water that you have boiled and allowed to cool. But that needs veterinary attention.
