Update:
I took him to the vet, but the antibiotics actually made him much much worse! The swelling covered his eyes completely and sometimes they would bleed.
He eventually stopped eating unless I forced him, and lost some weight. I was really worried I was gonna lose him.
It's only recently...
Nope, no loose substrate of any kind. The cage furniture is all styrofoam coated in dryloc.
Lights are an Arcadian 12% tube fluorescent with a reflector. Heat lamp is an incandescent indoor floodlight. (I figure someone might ask about lighting, as I know the coil bulbs are bad for their eyes)...
What is causing this?? I think it's starting to affect his depth perception, as he keeps missing his bugs multiple times before he finally catches them.
He's always had a little more 'space' under his bottom lid, but the swelling tissue is new within the last two weeks or so.
^ I'm not a big fan of 6 legged critters, but I did order some 1/2" superworms on recommendation of the breeder. She said he was raised on dubias, BSFL, and small superworms. He seems really happy to see a different type of worm in his bowl! I know they have a somewhat higher fat though, they're...
That could be part of the problem. Colored lights aren't good for their eyes. A ceramic bulb would better if you need supplemental heat at night (often referred to as a CHE or ceramic heating element.) If the tank doesn't get colder than 65 F during the night, you don't really need one though.
Not at all!:)
I bought this track. There are cheaper ones, but I really wanted it in black, not almond.

Here's the best deal on the little finger groove stick-on handles for the glass. So much easier to open than trying to...
So day 2 -- he ate at least a few mouthfuls of collard greens, and about 10-12 medium sized BSFL throughout the day (I've got them in an escape-proof bowl, so it's an all day buffet ). It's probably overkill, but I've got the larvae I plan to feed next sitting in a tupperware filled with...
As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a big HTTYD fan. So... here's Meatlug! The name was picked out months ago, lol, but he also sorta picked it for himself (more on that later)
He's a normal, but I understand he's het to several mutations (Unlikely I'll ever breed him, but I like...
^I forgot to mention, I have a dimmer plug on the heat bulb, so it's probably running at 45-50w. It looks like night time temperatures get down to mid 70s when all the lights are off... It might get a little lower than that as winter comes along. I'll keep an eye on it, to make sure it doesn't...
It's done! I'm getting my little one on Saturday. So excited!
Ended up going with 1/4 glass, not plexiglass, after looking at it at the glass shop. It's so thick, I doubt it will break from anything less than a direct hammer hit. No worries about scratching/fogging up over time, like I would...
